BLACK FOREST Road to Vollmer Road

The Briargate Parkway–Stapleton Road corridor is a critical transportation link within the Pikes Peak Region, designed to enhance mobility and connectivity between I-25 and US-24, with connection to Curtis Road at Judge Orr Road. The ultimate corridor will be configured as a four-lane roadway with improved multimodal accommodations, including pedestrian and bicycle facilities, designated utility corridors, and necessary drainage infrastructure.

This project will complete the first segment of the Briargate-Stapleton corridor, extending Briargate Parkway from its current eastern terminus at Black Forest Road to Vollmer Road. Currently, only a short segment of a two-lane roadway exists at the western end of the project area at Wolf Ranch, while the remaining corridor consists of an undeveloped 120-foot ROW with additional utility easements through Eagle Rising and Highland Park developments. The planned improvements will provide a consistent roadway section, improve safety, and support regional growth. This segment of the corridor will be built as an urban section within a 120' right-of-way as shown.

KEY Project Considerations

  • Drainage management: Proper handling of on-site and off-site runoff, wetland mitigation, culvert sizing for peak flows, and the incorporation of water quality treatment features.

  • Utility coordination: Identifying and minimizing impacts to existing utilities while integrating designated corridors for future utility installations.

  • Compliance with standards: The project will adhere to both El Paso County and CDOT standards, as well as guidance from the Corridor Preservation Study and ACP. Traffic signal design will align with Colorado Springs City specifications.

  • Right-of-way and property impacts: Efforts will be made to minimize property acquisition while securing necessary easements for construction and future maintenance.

  • Jurisdictional considerations: Since portions of the corridor may transition from El Paso County to the City of Colorado Springs as development progresses, a hybrid roadway design will be implemented to maintain consistency and avoid frequent cross-section changes.
